Browsing The Web

All about browsers
Featured Publication What kind of browser do you need for surfing the Web?   The most commonly used browser was still Netscape's Navigator the last I heard, with Microsoft's Internet Explorer taking second place.   Both come with JavaScript support. Although there are other, smaller browsers, Navigator and Internet Explorer are the two main ones, and they are free of charge!   You can get either one by downloading them over the Internet, although it may take close to an hour of your time.   They also require a graphical user interface like Windows 3.1 and more than a few megabytes of hard drive space. If viewing animations is important to you, you'll want to get Navigator 4, or perhaps Internet Explorer 3 or even IE4.   All of these versions also have the ability to play MIDI (music) files, and of course they all display text and images rather nicely.   Navigator is an all-round good choice and the best downloading browser.   Internet Explorer 3 doesn't have the installation problems of IE4.
