See the latest updates November 15, 2003 Update November 03, 2003 Update below Chronic fatigue and degenerating health which persisted for 16 years was cured by "coral calcium" and supplements which were taken three times daily for five days. Thank you so much for encouraging me to take "coral calcium" and vitamin and mineral supplements.I am extremely excited and thrilled with the results of the daily consumption of vitamin and mineral supplements, particularly Coral Calcium. Bob Barefoot, a familiar sight to many people because of late-night television infomercials, has made available for sale a vitamin and mineral supplement known as "Coral Calcium Supreme", a formulation of Coral Calcium from Okinawa, Japan. My hallucination is that this is how everyone with excellent health feels all the time! It was not an instant cure, it took several days. And as long as I keep taking them, I expect to live a long and healthy life. Praise Jehovah! Early report on coral calcium by Ward Green ``The prevention of cancer requires no government help, and no extra money." For more information about coral calcium, or how to buy Bob Barefoot's coral calcium see Online Coral Calcium: Science and Research. In 1990, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, calcium was said to be ``the mineral most likely to be deficient in the average diet." At the same time, the article went on to say that ``a clinically detectable deficiency of calcium is a relatively rare finding'' (their words, not mine). Wait a minute! Does it not seem significant that the mineral which is most commonly deficient in the average diet should be also constituted in the human body in such a way as to make a deficiency essentially undetectable? This looks like nothing less than a recipe for disaster. By now you are probably asking: ``How important is calcium to health?" The importance of calcium to the human body may never be fully understood (1Corinthians 8:2). What little we do know may best be summed up in a statement by nutritionist, chemist, and author Robert R. Barefoot in the book ``Death by Diet" [2002 edition] on page 95, where he writes: ``[Calcium is the] body's most biologically active mineral nutrient."World class scientists and medical researchers having recently been `waking up' to the important role calcium plays in biological systems. ``Calcium must certainly be the major bioelement of our times. Only a generation ago the calcium ion was known as a component of bone mineral and as a blood plasma constituent required in heart function and blood coagulation, but little more. Today we know of dozens, if not hundreds of different cellular and extracellular processes that are regulated by the changes in cytosolic [this means `within the cell'] or extracellular [this means `outside the cell'] calcium ions. Indeed, the calcium ion is emerging as a most important and ubiquitous [this means `present everywhere'] intracellular messenger." (Albert Hehninger, Professor of Medical Science, John Hopkins University, in the Foreword of the book: The Role of Calcium in Biological Systems, Volume I, 1985, CRC Press Inc.) In continuing, Calcium has been known since the 1970's as essential to heart function and blood clotting. More recently, calcium has been found to be a required intermediary in the transmission of nerve signals ("Calcium in Synaptic Transmission", by Rodolfo R. Llinas, Scientific American, October 1982.). Calcium is now also seen as the workhorse of the cell, bringing essential nutrients into the cell and closing the ion channel into the cell by binding with a protein having the shape of a coiled serpent. The opening of the cell channel is controlled by the concentration of calcium outside the cell which creates an electrochemical voltage of 70 millivolts. Calcium (mono) orthophosphate is the primary buffering agent in the blood and body fluids which allows for the maintenance of a healthy pH, or alkalinity, within which oxygen abounds and cancer cannot exist. There is a form of calcium phosphate called apatite which is a chief constituent of human bones and teeth. Calcium deficiency, although difficult to detect by conventional means, may be detected by spitting on a piece of litmus, or pH paper. Many doctors may not accept this fact, but this test was used for many years by Dr. Carl Reich in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in his successful treatment of thousands of patients with cancer, asthma, and numerous other disorders. Because calcium is known (even with the very little that we do know) to control and support so many body functions, it does not take a rocket scientist to understand that a deficiency of calcium can cause all sorts of problems. This is especially important, since it is also known that calcium is one of the most difficult to absorb of all minerals. Vitamin D, which is produced by ultraviolet light from the sun acting on cholesterol in your skin, is essential to the absorption of calcium. The small intestine has receptors called VDR's (or Vitamin D Receptors) which allow vitamin D molecules to bind and thereupon provide a means to assist calcium ions in getting through the intestinal wall. Some foods may be detrimental to the absorption of calcium by the body. For example, Bob Barefoot again writes ``The phosphates naturally in meat or artificially put into carbonated drinks combine with the digested calcium in your stomach to form a bony precipitate which then is expelled by the body.'' (Robert R. Barefoot, Death by Diet [2002 edition], p. 48). Translation, soft drinks are a no-no, and eating more than 20 ounces per week of red meat is not good for you either. Phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate, IP6), for example, an additive used to improve the color of canned foods, soft drinks and milk drinks, has been seen to suppress calcium absorption in rats (Inhibitory effects of phytic acid and other inositol phosphates on zinc and calcium absorption in suckling rats. Journal of Nutrition Feb 1989: Lonnerdal B, Sandberg AS, Sandstrom B, Kunz C.) In the article cited zinc absorption was also hindered, and IP5 was found to produce effects similar to IP6. "The faith that you have, have it in accord with yourself in the sight of God." (Romans 14:22) The Bible would have us believe that while we are free, our behaviour has impact on the people around us. Thus it would appear to be clear that whatever decisions we make with regard to diet, they are worthy of much consideration, even prayer. Dietary considerations do not include drugs, which involve the spiritistic use of natural or unnatural substances. Jehovah's judgment upon those practising such things is death, which is righteous indeed (Proverbs 11:31; Galatians 5:20, 21; Revlation 21:8). At the same time it is also true that we are all dying (Ecclesiastes 9:2), and that we inherited this from our original parents, Adam and Eve. Adam sinned and thereby fell short of his true potential, passing on the result of that sin to his descendents. Jehovah opened a way for us to reclaim our everlasting lives through Jesus Christ, who paid the price for Adam's sin (Romans 5:21; 6:23). As Christians, our bodies have become substitutes for Christ (John 2:21; 2Corinthians 5:20; Ephesians 3:6; 4:12). The Christian body is, in fact, the temple of the holy spirit (1Corinthians 3:16; 6:19). How we treat our bodies is important, then, for the reason that our bodies are the means by which we worship God. It is noteworthy also that although many drugs (such as cigarettes) are legal, this does not make them beneficial. ``All things are lawful... but not all things are advantageous." (1Corinthians 6:12; 10:23) If you are involved in the use of drugs, consider carefully a change in direction. However, do not make any decision in haste, because `haste makes waste' (see Proverbs 21:5). It is also true that the road you are on is not as important as the direction in which you are going. The Bible also says, ``Keep working out your own salvation with fear and trembling." (Phippians 2:12) ``It is good for the eyes to see the sun," says Ecclesiastes 11:7. It follows that sunshine is good for you. Ultraviolet light is responsible for producing vitamin D in your skin, which is the best way to obtain vitamin D, essential for mineral absorption. Since vitamin D is vital for the absorption of calcium (a mineral), a deficiency of vitamin D can lead to calcium deficiency, causing a whole host of problems. Inositol triphosphate (INSP-3), another product of direct sunlight on skin, is essential for the regulation of stored calcium in the cells. Also, ultraviolet light striking the pituitary gland behind the eyes (note that glass blocks ultraviolet light) is also essential in order to produce the hormone calcitonin. Calcitonin is believed to be essential for preventing the decalcification of the bones. Loss of bone mass in turn may lead to arthritis (a natural defense to avoid bone breakage), osteoporosis, and premature aging. The hypothalamus is the part of the brain located behind the eyes, and it is believed that ultraviolet light (sunlight) striking this area affects the proper regulation of ``appetite, sleep, body temperature" among other things (Death by Diet, p. 111). Ultraviolet light also produces `excitons' (electron-hole pairs) in the red blood cells within the veins of the body (which are located near the skin for this purpose), which provides energy in the form of electrons when an exciton collides with another exciton. The same excitonic process is responsible for the photosynthetic process in plants which is thought to be the `secret of life '. These examples underscore the importance of getting sunshine exposure which is direct; that is, without any intervening glass or optical device (glasses being an obvious example). Sunshine is essential, even for those with skin cancer, and an hour per day of unobstructed exposure to the natural healthy rays of the sun together with coral calcium nutrient supplementation is an excellent way to get and stay healthy. Coral calcium supplements do not require sunshine, and are unlike liquid calcium, which has been reported to cause problems when taken in large quantities without accompanying sunshine. Those who believe that sunshine is harmful to your health forget that the sun is a natural nutrient. To quote Hippocrates: ``A wise man ought to realize that health is his most valuable possession and learn how to treat his illnesses by his own judgment...Life is short, science is long; opportunity is elusive, experiment is dangerous, judgment is difficult...Everything in excess is opposed to nature.'' Otto Warburg, who was awarded a Nobel Prize for his work in establishing that cancer is anaerobic (that is, cancer dies in the presence of oxygen), was interested in the role of calcium in the body at the time of his death, and he had begun working with Dr. Carl Reich on the hypothesis that cancer was functionally `anoxic' due to calcium deficiency. The replication of DNA in normal cells is not possible in an acidic fluid, since in an acidic fluid glucose breaks down into two lactic acid molecules, making the fluid even more acidic, and thus fails to provide the nucleotide building blocks necessary for DNA formation. This is explained simply by noting that nucleotides utilize a sugar containing five carbon atoms, and glucose is a six-carbon sugar which, in an acidic medium, breaks into two three-carbon lactic acid molecules. On the other hand, in an alkaline fluid (rich in calcium), the same glucose loses one or two of its six carbon atoms, allowing for the formation of the five-carbon nucleotide building blocks necessary for DNA replication. Thus acidosis (calcium deficiency) is also associated with accelerated aging and slow healing, as well as slow growth. According to Robert Barefoot, the lactic acid build-up in the cells may account for an additional problem known as lactose intolerance in some people (who have difficulties consuming milk, for example). Thus, an individual who is lactose-intolerant may desperately be in need of the calcium contained in the milk, but be unable to drink milk due to calcium deficiency and the resulting (lactic) acidity in the body. Coral calcium taken as a food supplement solves these problems, allowing for the body's natural repair mechanisms to function, leading to slower aging and vigourous health even in later years. Since calcium deficiency is difficult to detect, it makes sense that a sensible diet, in addition to sunshine, would include moderate calcium supplementation. All other vitamins and minerals are essential to a moderate supplement regimen, as these have been studied more and more in recent years and have been shown to reduce disease. Vitamin D is especially important in any supplement for its therapeutic value in the treatment of arthritis and its associated benefit in the assisting of mineral absorption by the body, which according to the best information available prevents and cures literally hundreds of disorders. The greater interest in calcium in recent years and the explosion in the numbers of research studies on calcium now published in the scientific and medical journals may continue for some time to go completely unnoticed by most doctors, as they are continually bombarded by propaganda intended to safeguard the authority of the medical establishment and drug industry profits. The evidence is demonstrated, not only by scientific studies, but also by the sheer number of testimonials of the people who have tried a coral calcium supplement and found a cure that alleviated the need for surgery or some other treatment, such as drugs. Also, the commencing of a dietary supplement does not necessitate the cessation of any ongoing treatment (you are only feeding your body with the nutrients which it desperately needs). For those who dissent, the burden of proof must rest on them. It must be up to those who disagree to provide their own studies, simply because history shows that funding will rarely be provided for studies which do not support the drug industry, and even when such studies prove nutrition to be a viable cure, they are ignored by the medical establishment. Besides, the studies have already been done, and they prove the thesis that sunshine, exercise, and dietary vitamins and minerals do lead to a disease-free life. Those who blind themselves to the truth about the Okinawans, the Hopi Indians in Arizonas, the Hunzas in Northern Pakistan (and numerous other real people who experience long life in excellent health in various places around the world) will just never understand, I guess, and that's okay. It is important to note that any supplement which is currently recommended by the medical establishment is likely to be about 10 to 100 times lower in International Unit values than is required for good health. This has the effect of perpetuating a system in which good health is non-existent, and in which patients are required to return to the physician for another visit, as time and again their health takes another step towards disease. Note also that while calcium supplements and other supplements do not postpone death forever (we still need Jesus Christ for that), they make life a whole lot more pleasant and lives fuller and more productive, allowing for the possibility of vigorous health even into the very last days of life. Further Notes: There is a fascinating truth which remains difficult to explain, and this is that the brain, when functioning very well, can remember other times when the same brain functioned at a similarly high level. It is also, incredibly, true that a malfunctioning brain (for example, one which is calcium deficient), is incapable of remembering accurately anything very much at all, or even of remembering that it is in fact malfunctioning! Those of you who are calcium deficient will not understand this at all until you rectify, based on faith alone, your brain's state of ill-repair. However, whether you do or you don't may be of little significance other than a source of amusement for someone in his right mind (Revelation 22:11). But is calcium the cure to all of the body's ills? Well, Jesus Christ is still essential for everlasting life, and calcium in itself is clearly not sufficient to cure anything. Healthy people need sunshine, food for eating, air for breathing, water for drinking, vigourous exercise for building our bones, sugar for energy, vitamin and mineral supplementation in abundant quantity to provide for all of the bodily processes, and of course we need love and relaxation, joy and contemplation, challenging work and a reason to do and enjoy all of these things. Of course, the list is not intended to be complete. In the past, people got more sun than we do today, what with many people working indoors and rumours that the sun causes cancer. With cancer rates having increased a great deal since 1900, it is clear that something is not right, and a hundred years is not enough time to say that our genes are responsible for the difference. On the other hand, genetics account for the fact that we have all inherited sin from our parents (Psalms 51:5; 139:16), and thus we are predisposed to illness or disease, and even death is a consequence of the sin of Adam. But the predisposition to disease does not cause the disease, it merely provided the map by which we may determine which road we are on. Black people in Africa are exposed to the sun a great deal of the time and yet suffer far fewer ailments than their North American counterparts, who are forced to work indoors much of the time. Certain people are believed to be predisposed to heart disease, that it has a genetic component. These things are scientific facts, they have a basis in reality, because genes are real insofar as they make up the blueprint that says what your body will do when provided with a certain diet, lifestyle or way of life. When Inuit (used to be called Eskimos) are modernized they develop even more disease than we have. What actually causes cancer is known and it is the same thing that causes heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis etc... the cause is known to be acidosis. Otto Warburg, Nobel Laureate (1883-1970, he won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1931 for his discovery of the oxygen-transferring enzyme of cell respiration, and was voted a second Nobel Prize in 1944 for his discovery of the active groups of the hydrogen transferring enzymes), gave a lecture in 1966 entitled The Prime Cause and Prevention of Cancer in which he stated concerning cancer, ``there is no disease whose cause is better known." 1966!!! Of course, the prevention for cancer is to increase the amount of oxygen supplied to the cells, and much of the propaganda on television would have us believe that they are still searching for the cause of cancer! We knew the cause even before 1966!! What doctors will tell you today, perhaps is that they don't know how to get more oxygen to the cells. Unfortunately, doctors never studied nutrition! Alkaline fluids are extremely oxygen-rich, and calcium just happens to be the God-intended way to make the body alkaline, thereby preventing and curing all disease. Of course, Jehovah provided the sun as a fantastic way to synthesize vitamin D from cholesterol in your skin, because calcium is also the hardest mineral to absorb. When, in the 19th century, the washing of hands was first found to be an effective way for doctors to save countless lives (of course God had instructed his people correctly centuries before, Exodus 40:32, Leviticus 11:25,28,40), the medical authorities could not see how something that they couldn't understand or see, and something that they didn't invent and for which they were not responsible, could help. Today, as they carefully and methodically wash their hands, doctors are having difficulty seeing how something as simple as calcium could be the cure for anything. I would like to relate an anecdote which I believe will shed some daylight on the current dilemna which we face as we attempt to distinguish fact from fiction in the current climate of scientific discovery. When Albert Einstein first developed his theory of relativity, it is a matter of public record that there was so much opposition to the new ideas presented by the relativity theory that one of the papers of the times was entitled ``One Hundred Authors Against Einstein".Einstein is reported to have responded, ``Why one hundred ? If I were wrong, one would have been enough." There is much more to do and, if Jehovah is willing, we will continue this ongoing study of health and the wise use of nutrition as a general prevention of and cure for the degenerative diseases. More importantly, Jehovah wills that we continue preaching the good news about the resurrection of his son, Jesus Christ. WG Back to Top of Page
