DATABASES:Should I Build One?

Featured Publication Databases are programs that keep track of information and allow it to be retrieved quickly and easily.   Both numbers and text can be stored, and in some cases the format is customizable to suit your needs.   What determines whether you need a database is the amount of information you are trying to keep track of, and the ways in which you need to access that data.   The information itself can be from a variety of sources, and there is no restriction on the range of subjects that can be encompassed.   The database is to computer users what the filing cabinet is to office workers.   Before building your database, you need to consider that some utilities may be sufficient in helping you to find information without going to the expense of time and money a database entails.   That having been said, there is a variety of databases available.   Consider whether you will want to migrate the information from your present system to a later system.
