The Law of Moses Moses at the parting of the Red Sea

Moses' name means 'drawn out of water', reflecting how he comes to be adopted by Pharaoh's household as an infant. Educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, Moses leaves Egypt as a young man, but he returns 40 years later to deliver his people from Egyptian bondage. After leading the Israelites through many troubles in the wilderness, he brings them to the Promised Land. Deuteronomy 31:9 credits the writing of the law to Moses, but the law of Moses is frequently said to include Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
