Much of the Psalms were written by King David, who as a boy had defeated Goliath in battle, and who in the days prior to his coronation had also suffered persecution at the hands of his predecessor, King Saul. Under King David's military leadership Israel fought many battles and celebrated many victories, but even with his great love for Jehovah, there were times when David required God's forgiveness (Psalms 32, 51). Psalm 72, regarding Solomon, prophesied a time of peace during the reign of David's son, Solomon. The Psalms, as with all of the Hebrew scriptures, prefigure the Messiah. Other writers of Psalms include Moses (e.g. Psalms 90-91), Solomon (Psalm 127), and Asaph.
