As browsers keep on improving, the standardization of the interface may take away issues of ease of use with regard the GUI (Graphical User Interface).   But not all browsers may be equal in that they may not function as flawlessly or as quickly in environments for which they were not designed.

Using Internet Explorer 4.0 in Windows 3.1 was not a preferred alternative on our Fujitsu Milan laptop with 40Mb of RAM.   We found that it used a lot of system resources and was not particularly fast, either.   Our browser of choice was Netscape Navigator 4.08 for that platform.   However, we have since seen an incredible difference when IE (now v. 4.72) is run on our UMAX ActionBook under Windows 98, even with only 32Mb of RAM.

Because the browser is integrated with Windows 98, we can use it to open folders and files as well as browse the internet.   But the biggest improvements are the speed with which it starts up, and the speed with which it downloads web pages, which are roughly instantaneous and 2-4 times faster, respectively.   That adds up to a lot less waiting.   Performance has been also nearly flawless and configuration a non-issue, making it the easiest to use of any browser we have yet seen.
