IE5 : Download X10
Featured Publication The day after it became available in non-beta form, we downloaded Internet Explorer 5.0 with all the options.   Trouble was, it took 10 tries to complete the download, and about eight and a half hours.   The download was done using the Windows 98 Update feature of the Microsoft website.
We considered that it might be hectic to download IE5 as soon as it became available, which is why we waited a day.   Using the Windows 98 Update page on the web, we selected a complete install of about 51.6 Mb worth of components and add-ons to give us a sense of the full task of downloading this new browser.   Fortunately, although the download was interrupted nine times, the download method did not start over again each time, but retained most of what had already been done, or the job would have taken much longer.
The Windows 98 Update feature was intelligent enough to gather that we already had installed a more recent version of Macromedia Flash software, so we didn't need to download that component of Explorer.   The problems which slowed the download seemed to be caused by lost connections, with a message that the connection to the server had been lost.   We ended by downloading a patch for 128-bit encryption, which took 3 tries to reach the download page, but installed easily.   The version of Explorer downloaded was 5.00.2014.0216.
