Enter And Be Counted
The Return Key
Featured Publication You may have used a computer before.   You may even have used search engines on the World Wide Web.   But you may not know about the Return key.
Most search engines (see Search Engines December 1998), provide a button on which you click when you have finished entering your search criteria.   Clicking on the button (it may say something like 'Go') begins the searching process.   But did you know that many search engines allow you to press ENTER (also called the Return key, after typewriters' carriage return) instead?
The reason a button is provided is so that all navigation can be done using point and click style, as keyboards are difficult and arcane devices to many users.   But it takes so much time to move the pointer, then to click on the button...   Wouldn't it be nice if there were a special key on your keyboard you could just press to start a search?   Try pressing ENTER.
