...or for Plain-text (ASCII or UTF8) Downloadable Bibles

    Recommended for:
  • Advanced Computer Users
  • Windows XP Users
  • <----- Warning: LARGE Text Files
If you choose to download text format files like the ones to the left, they (after unzipping) may be viewed using NotePad in Windows XP (e.g. Hebrew HTML UTF8-format).
  • Choosing UTF8 download file format when downloading will permit you to view non-Latin characters in Windows XP NotePad
  • Find NotePad in Windows XP by clicking Start/ All Programs/ Accessories.
  • Fonts may be downloaded from Biola U to allow the correct display of non-Latin characters.
  • Creating shortcuts to text files on the desktop or in a toolbar makes for quicker access.
  • Because these files are in text format, they offer the options of viewing them using any capable text viewer, and of reformatting.
    Troubleshooting:
    1. Handling of text files of this size is a fairly major undertaking. These files may be too large to load quickly in WordPad (c.f. NotePad) or in Internet Explorer.
    2. If a UTF8 file doesn't display properly in NotePad (e.g. the Chinese UTF8 text file looks like èµ· 初 神 創 造 天 地 。 instead of 起 初 神 創 造 天 地 。), saving the file using NotePad may fix it. You may also manually open a file and specify UTF8 encoding in the Open dialog box.
    3. You may find that NotePad opens some files faster than others, and that the time taken may be greatly reduced (e.g. 60 seconds compared to 2 seconds) by choosing a different font. The free Cyberbit Bitstream font at Biola does a good job here, and so does the Gulim font.
