DOS/Windows Utilities

Useful or Essential?

Featured Publication If you use DOS or Windows, you likely have seen advertisements for utilities to enhance these operating systems and facilitate their maintenance.   The question is, how essential are they?   A utility that allows the user to find all files on their hard drive containing a specific word or phrase is undoubtedly useful, even essential for some.   But while it may be also useful to be able to troubleshoot your PC, utilities that do this may be essential only for a particular group of users who have a hands-on attitude to their computers.   Be aware also that add-ons and utility software in general must keep moving ahead at a rapid rate as operating systems are upgraded to include many of these utilities' functions.   So another factor to consider is the length of time until your next operating system upgrade.   If you need the best chance at disaster recovery or the latest gismos, utilities may interest you.
