Music On The Web
What factors to consider
Featured Publication Music on the Web is in short supply.   This may be because of a lack of musical appreciation among computer folks, but is more than likely a combination of a lack of technical know-how and a lack of penetration of supporting technology.
What is needed to receive audio is a recent browser (IExplorer 3 or later, NNavigator 4 or later) and a sound card which supports the operating system in which the browser is running.   For decent quality sound, the main requirement is a wavetable(hardware-based) soundcard.
There are basically two ways to transmit music over the Internet: the first is in .WAV-file format, and the second is MIDI-file format.   MIDI files are much smaller in size than .WAV files and thus are vastly superior for transmission over a limited bandwidth such as a phone line.
