The Realism Of Wavetable Music
Featured Publication A scant few years ago, the sound of a symphony orchestra on computer would have been unheard of.   Well, believe it or not.
MIDI is an acronym that stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, and represents a technology that enables instrument sounds to be encoded in a very brief format, sent over a phone line, and played back using a digital wavetable sound card which stores actual digital recordings of real instruments.
You've got to hear it for yourself to decide what you think, but the result is light-years ahead of the FM synthesis common on older sound cards which were common just a couple of years ago.   Because of this technology, music-lovers can enjoy background music linked to the web pages they visit.
