Micah 5
1Promptly now the daughter of the troops is assembling the siege army against us in order to set upon us a sceptre, for me to strike upon the cheek, and so I shall judge Israel.

2You, Bethlehem (`Bethlehem' = `House of Bread') of Ephrath (`Ephrath' = `ash-heap, and place of fruitfulness'), the least is to become as a thousand in Judah, by taking from you one who is to become ruler of Israel, going forth from ancient times, from days as of eternity.

3Yes! I will give them until the time of her labouring to give birth, and the remnant of her kin I will restore because of the sons of Israel.

4Jehovah will stand and shepherd them in might and in excellence in the name of Jehovah the most excellent God, and I will cause them to marry while now I am growing to the ends of the earth.

5This prosperity of Assyria will come to pass, as they come to our land and walk in our palaces, by this, our raising over them seven shepherds or eight dukes of mankind.

6The land of Assyria will be punished by the sword, and the land of Nimrod in their entering in, and I shall snatch away from Assyria while they come in upon our land and while they walk upon our boundaries.

7There will be a remnant of Jacob in the midst of the peoples-- very abundant, like the dew from Jehovah, like the rain upon the grass, which is neither bound by consent nor waits long for the sons of men.

8There will be a remnant of Jacob, among the Gentiles in the midst of the peoples, mighty as the lion among the beasts of the jungle, as a young lion in a flock of sheep, which when it enters certainly treads on them and tears them to pieces with no one to rescue.

9Your hand will be high above your foes, and all of your enemies will be destroyed.

10``The day is coming,'' says the oracle of Jehovah, ``when I will cut down the horses from your midst, and your chariots I shall cause to perish.''

11``I shall cut off the cities from your land and I will break down all of your strongholds.

12``I shall cause the sorceries to cease from your hand, and the magicians will cease to exist.

13``I shall cut down your idols and your sacred pillars from the midst of you, and you shall not worship henceforth the works of your hands.

14``I will destroy your Ashtoreth images or Asherahs (`Asherah' = `Astarte', Phoenician goddess) from the midst of you, and I will desolate your cities.

15``I will work in anger and in the heat of vengeance the Gentile nations who do not listen.''

Micah 5 1
Now shalt thou gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us; they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
Micah 5 2
But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.
Micah 5 3
Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she who travaileth hath brought forth: then the residue of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
Micah 5 4
And he shall stand, and shall feed [his flock] in the strength of Jehovah, in the majesty of the name of Jehovah his God: and they shall abide; for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
Micah 5 5
And this [man] shall be [our] peace. When the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
Micah 5 6
And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our border.
Micah 5 7
And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples as dew from Jehovah, as showers upon the grass, that tarry not for man, nor wait for the sons of men.
Micah 5 8
And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep; who, if he go through, treadeth down and teareth in pieces, and there is none to deliver.
Micah 5 9
Let thy hand be lifted up above thine adversaries, and let all thine enemies be cut off.
Micah 5 10
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Jehovah, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and will destroy thy chariots:
Micah 5 11
and I will cut off the cities of thy land, and will throw down all thy strongholds.
Micah 5 12
And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thy hand; and thou shalt have no [more] soothsayers:
Micah 5 13
and I will cut off thy graven images and thy pillars out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thy hands;
Micah 5 14
and I will pluck up thine Asherim out of the midst of thee; and I will destroy thy cities.
Micah 5 15
And I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations which hearkened not.
