Proverbs 22 1Kindness surpasses both silver and gold 1And honour abundance of riches I'm told 2The poor and the wealthy have met face to face 2Jehovah created them all in their place 3The wise one sees bad and he secrets away 3But fools cross the line in their urgent gainsay 4Humility fear of Jehovah do bless 4With riches and glory and life without stress 5How riddled with thorns is the wicked one's trail 5One guarding his soul far from these puts his tail 6Do focus a boy on his way from the start 6That he may grow old though from it not depart 7The rich are the masters of those who have need 7And borrowers serve under lenders indeed 8A planter of evil shall reap only ill 8And his rod of anger will shortly be still 9A generous soul will be blessed for his deed 9A giver of food for the person in need 10Pray banish the scornful to send away blame 10And thus have an end of prejudgment and shame 11The one who loves purity heart does extend 11So pleasant his words will a king be his friend 12And well will Jehovah hold knowledge in trust 12But treacherous words he perverts in disgust 13The lazy one says: `There's a lion outside! 13And there I'll be murdered with no place to hide.' 14The mouth of a whore is as deep as a pit 14Those loathed by Jehovah will fall into it 15Mere folly is close to the heart of a boy 15When taught by the rod he will seldom annoy 16Who takes from the needy to fill his own sack 16He gives to the wealthy and surely for lack 17Now offer your ear for these words to the wise 17And tender your heart let my knowledge advise 18For all your delight do with wit come to grips 18That proverbs be gathered as fit to your lips 19I've given to you of my knowledge today 19That you come to trust in Jehovah I pray 20But were there not writings and counsel before 20Of excellent things knowledge wisdom and more 21The balance of truth might I cause you to know 21That you then in truth might have something to show 21To those who to you for an answer would send 21That you words of truth may on balance then lend 22Take not from the poor man for that is his fate 22And do not oppress him as poor in the gate 23Jehovah injustice will plead and contest 23Dare steal from the poor and die under arrest 24Do not you a man who has anger befriend 24To no one as angry your hand do extend 25That you not be learning his suffering path 25It robs you of soul to be given to wrath 26Do not be as one who does thrust out his hand 26Who offers security loans to demand 27If now really you do have nothing to pay 27Then why should a man take your own bed away 28Don't move back a boundary established of old 28Where fathers and forefathers found to uphold 29A man who is skillful will stand before kings 29And in among commonplace men he has wings © 2003-2009 Ward Green.
