Song 41
To forever, a song: by David
1Happy is the giving one
1Instructing those with less or none.
1Jehovah will protect and save
1When in distress the one who gave.

2Jehovah makes a hedge for him
2He gives him vigour, gives him vim.
2He lets him prosper in his field
2No hated heart can make him yield.

3And be he well or be he ill
3Jehovah dare support him will.
3But through the thin and through the thick
3His bed he turns when he is sick.

4I said, Jehovah, see me pray
4Amend my soul-- I've gone astray.

5My enemies have done me wrong.
5Say they, he's dead, he won't last long.

6And though one comes to see me still
6His heart it just rehearses ill.
6He gathers more than what he tries
6And then goes out to spout his lies.

7And those that hate me whisper all
7As they conspire to plot my fall.

8An evil sickness, they deplore:
8``When he lies down he'll rise no more.''

9And yes, my own beloved friend
9In whom I trusted to the end
9He ate my bread I this confide
9He's turned against me now in pride.

10But you, Jehovah, kindly bend
10Bestow a favour on a friend
10And strengthen me for my attack
10That I may rise to pay them back.

11I know you do delight in me
11My foes have lost, it's plain to see.
12And as for me you hold a place
12To stand me ever toward your face.

13Now to Jehovah greatness due
13In Israel forever true.
13For truly ever God is he
13And truly ever will he be.
